The best site to sell your old iPhone
October 4, 2011
With a new iPhone coming out, one early adopter compared prices offered by sites that will buy your old gadgets. One trick I've picked up is to sell old stuff to subsidize buying new stuff. I even figured out how to make almost $300 in profit switching iPhones from AT&T to Verizon when the Verizon iPhone 4 was originally announced. But listing items on eBay and shipping to buyers who may or may not exist can be troublesome, and it often involves hassles that keep ordinary people away. Plus, eBay is an auction. You never know how much money you'll get for an item until you put it on the block. As you can see, for most of my items, eBay Instant Sale pays the most. It's different from listing something on their site. Instead of auctioning to individuals, you're selling directly to eBay. Read More › |

Are you hankering after the new iPhone? If you are, you can earn between $250 and $600 for your old model – more than most customers paid in the first place. But you need to sell now. eBay shells out big(ger) bucks for your old iPhone 4
October 4, 2011
Earlier this week, I told you about the cash cow that now lies dormant in your soon-to-be-outdated iPhone 4 and how sites like NextWorth are upping the ante--offering to take them off your hands for as much as $250, so long as you commit to sell before the anticipated iPhone 5 announcement on Tuesday. Turns out eBay is offering even more beef for those old devices--as they were quick to inform me. I checked it out, and currently an iPhone 4 16GB in good condition is fetching upwards of $260 at eBay's Instant Sale site. Read More › |

Used iPads Flood the Resale Market
March 4, 2011
So does that mean you’ll be able to scoop up a used, first-generation iPad on the cheap? Based on the prices demanded by sellers, the answer is no. Not yet anyway. A Mashable post describes an iPad trade-in market that’s been amazingly robust since Apple’s iPad 2 announcement on Wednesday. Gazelle.com, which pays cash for used gadgets, bought 2,500 iPads from consumers on Wednesday, and another 2,000 or so the day after. Read More › |

Sell Unwanted Gadgets on eBay Instantly With Their New Recycling Service
October 25, 2010
It's not going to warrant you any rags-to-riches accolades overnight, but it's a quick way to get rid of unwanted gadgetry and make a few bucks in the process. You can make more money selling it on eBay proper, to real buyers, but for those other gadgets that no-one really wants, eBay is willing to trade with you for a small amount of cash—and pay for your shipping charges, too. If their database shows your product as having no secondhand resale value whatsoever, then they'll take it off your hands and still pay shipping. The alternative is to just let them rot in your bottom draw, much like most of my old handsets. Read More › |

eBay's Latest Green Deal: "Instant Sale" Electronics Trade-In
October 21, 2010
One of the looming challenges of the shift to a sustainable economy, especially in the U.S., is how to simultaneously shift consumption patterns -- we are, of course, profoundly addicted to stuff, and especially new stuff. In one of the many attempts to prove that sustainable consumption isn't an oxymoron, eBay has put its dedicated Green Team to work on a range of environmental initiatives, and has been trying to educate the world that buying used stuff is greener than buying new stuff.
